The Dogwood Art deTour was held the weekend of April 12 and 13,2014. I have participated in this event with the Dogwood Arts Festival for three years, which is comprised of local artists opening up their studios for tours. The artists are asked to paint both days so people can look at the displayed art that is for sale, and watch as the paintings are developed.
I find it so enjoyable to meet and talk with all the people who come through my studio., and try to answer any questions they may have about technique or the specific subject I am painting. Many people who come by have been to past shows….such an amazing compliment that they want to come back.
We were blessed with beautiful weather this year. The dogwood trees bloomed “on schedule,” making everything seem so spring-like and upbeat!
Having spent a week in Maine last August, many of my paintings this year were dedicated to the wonderful vistas that I found there. The late summer light in Maine was exciting and challenging to capture. In some ways, it is a lot like painting in the south of France. There is a special glow in that light that adds so much to the paintings. Most of my Maine paintings sold at the Dogwood Arts show, and a number of commissions were agreed upon.
The show was very successful and beyond enjoyable for me. Many thanks to everyone who came by. I look forward to seeing you next spring!
